Optimisation of Mixed Rectangular and Circular Structures

Applications Of OPTRTCC

The program suite OPTRTCC can be used to analyse and optimise a variety of mixed rectangular and circular waveguide structures such as rectangular to circular waveguide transitions, circular corrugated horns, rectangular corrugated horns, multi-mode horns, corrugated waveguide filters, filters with circular irises, etc. The suite includes the stand alone analysis program RTCC and the pre/post-processor PREPRTCC. From an initial starting geometry the optimiser OPTRTCC can be used to further improve the performance of a component at a number of user specified frequencies. The desired performance targets can be set for a combination of return loss and transmission levels. In the case of horn radiators, performance targets can be set for a combination of return loss and cross-polarisation levels. The mathematical basis of the analysis program RTCC exploits a modal matching technique. The structure to be analysed is modelled as a number of discrete rectangular and circular segments supporting propagating as well as evanescent modes. Far-field patterns from the final aperture, either circular or rectangular, are obtained by applying a Kirchhoff-Huygens aperture field integration scheme. A dominant mode excitation is assumed at the input waveguide (TE10 for rectangular and TE11 for circular).

Method of Operation

The optimiser OPTRTCC is based on the Powell minimisation method and different performance targets can be set at a number user specified frequency points. For horn radiators angular directions at which cross-polarisation levels are evaluated can be specified. The user can also specify which individual dimensions of the structure are to be varied and in the case of filters symmetry conditions can be imposed.

Examples

Two examples illustrate the versatility of this program.

Program Contents

OPTRTCC is used with the RTCC suite which consists of a pre and post-processor program, PREPRTCC, and an analysis program, RTCC. Customers with existing versions of RTCC may upgrade to include OPTRTCC.

Input files for RTCC can be prepared interactively using PREPRTCC which incorporates a full range of screen editing functions. The data processing section also supports a programmable mouse such as a Logitech mouse. A screen dumping facility allows hardcopy on an Epson printer, HP Deskjet or Laserjet

OPTRTCC was developed by Dr.S.M.Tun of S.M.T. Consultancies Ltd. and is marketed exclusively by Antenna Software Ltd.
