COAXThe program suite COAX can be used to analyze coaxial transmission line structures such as coaxial junctions, matching adaptors, coaxial line filters, etc. Empty waveguide sections can also be included in the geometry. Therefore additional geometries such as coaxial probes terminated in circular waveguides and TM01 mode transducers can be analyzed. Characterisation of the properties of TEM lines with materials having different dielectric properties can also be investigated.
The mathematical basis of the analysis program exploits a modal matching technique. The structure to be analyzed must be modelled as a number of discrete cylindrical segments supporting TEM modes as well as TM0n modes. The modal matching employs a scattering matrix approach to determine the complex coefficients of the modes at the output. The return loss and transmission characteristics are also obtained as functions of frequency.
The program takes into account the effects of propagating as well as evanescent higher-order modes. The dominant TEM mode excitation is assumed. Furthermore empty circular waveguide sections supporting TM0n modes can also be incorporated in the analysis.
The program suite consists of a pre and post processor program PREPCOAX and an analysis program COAX. Input data files for COAX can be prepared interactively using a pre/post processor PREP- COAX which incorporates many screen editing facilities. A profile generator is also built into PREPCOAX to enable repetitive generation of complex structures by simply altering a few key parameters. The profile of the resultant structure can be viewed and modified interactively prior to analysis.
COAX was developed by Dr.S.M.Tun of S.M.T. Consultancies Ltd. and is marketed exclusively by Antenna Software Ltd.
COAX is available on these platforms.
